Forty years of communismŠtyridsať rokov komunizmu
The TatrasTatry
In 1960 Czechoslovakia redesigned its coat of arms, and on the lion's breast it placed a small blue shield bearing the outline of Kriváň with a partisan's campfire in front of it. The Slovak double cross, which had stood there before, was gone. For thirty years, until 1990, every official document in the country carried a picture of a Tatra mountain — chosen because Štúr's generation had made it a national symbol, and framed with a fire because the regime wanted the uprising of 1944 to be the founding story of the state. Symbols are arguments. This one is worth reading closely, because it tells you exactly which parts of the Slovak past the government of the day wanted remembered.V roku 1960 zmenilo Československo štátny znak a na hruď leva umiestnilo malý modrý štítok s obrysom Kriváňa a partizánskou vatrou pred ním.
