In August 1873 a narrow-gauge line was opened from Hronská Dúbrava in the Hron valley up to the town — the first public narrow-gauge steam railway in the Kingdom of Hungary. Five years later the district finished the largest single work it ever attempted: the Voznice hereditary adit, about sixteen kilometres of tunnel driven from low ground so that mine water ran out of the mountain by gravity and never had to be lifted at all. It was a masterpiece of nineteenth-century engineering. It was also finished at almost exactly the moment when the ore it drained stopped being worth the trouble.V auguste 1873 sprevádzkovali úzkorozchodnú železnicu z Hronskej Dúbravy v Pohroní hore do mesta — prvú verejnú úzkorozchodnú parnú železnicu v Uhorsku. O päť rokov neskôr dokončil revír najväčšie dielo, aké kedy postavil: voznickú dedičnú štôlňu, asi šestnásť kilometrov dlhú chodbu razenú z nížšie položeného miesta tak, aby banská voda odtekala z hory sama a nemusela sa vôbec čerpať. Bol to majstrovský kus inžinierstva 19. storočia. A dokončili ho presne vo chvíli, keď sa ruda, ktorú odvodňoval, prestávala oplácať.
