The Reformation reached the Turiec during the sixteenth century, and by 1560 the church at Vrútky was Lutheran like most of the basin. Its tower was repaired in 1622 and again in 1634, which is the ordinary evidence of a parish that was working and had money for scaffolding. There was no Ottoman front here and no fortress: the wars of the century reached this valley as taxes, requisitions and passing soldiers. A Lutheran school ran beside the church, and the schooling of this village has an unbroken line from it into the nineteenth century.Reformácia zasiahla Turiec v 16. storočí a už v roku 1560 bol vrútocký kostol evanjelický ako väčšina kotliny. Jeho vežu obnovovali v rokoch 1622 a 1634, čo je obyčajný doklad o farnosti, ktorá fungovala a mala na lešenie. Nijaký turecký front tu nebol a nijaká pevnosť tiež nie: vojny storočia sem doliehali ako dane, rekvirácie a prechádzajúce vojská. Pri kostole pôsobila evanjelická škola a od nej vedie neprerušená niť školstva v obci až do 19. storočia.
