VrútkyVrútky

Vrútky's oldest story belongs to the years right after the Mongol invasion. The oldest accounts say King Béla IV stayed at Zniev castle in the Turiec once the Mongols had gone, that men from Vrútky had distinguished themselves in the castle's defence, and that he gave them estates and raised them into the zeman class — petty nobles — on condition that they maintained armed men for the defence of the region. Notice what this is not: nobody claims Vrútky was destroyed in 1241, and there is no castle here to be destroyed. What the invasion produced in this valley was a class of small noble families, and their descendants are still countable much later — fifteen noble families and four manor houses in the village at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Vpád tu vytvoril vrstvu drobných zemianskych rodín a ich potomkov možno spočítať ešte oveľa neskôr — začiatkom 19. storočia bolo v obci pätnásť zemianskych rodov a štyri kúrie.
