From 1533 Ilava held a branch office of the Trnava thirtieth — the royal customs duty of one thirtieth of the value of goods in transit. A customs post is only ever set up where goods actually pass, so this is hard evidence that the road through Ilava mattered to somebody in Bratislava. The town's craftsmen organised themselves to match: the hatters formed the first guild in 1614 and others followed through the seventeenth century. A brewery is recorded here from about the same period and, through many changes of owner and building, it survived into the twentieth century.Od roku 1533 tu fungovala pobočka trnavského tridsiatku – kráľovského cla vo výške jednej tridsatiny hodnoty prevážaného tovaru. Colnica sa stavia len tam, kadiaľ tovar naozaj ide, takže je to tvrdý dôkaz, že cesta cez Ilavu niekomu v Bratislave záležala. Remeselníci sa podľa toho zorganizovali: v roku 1614 vznikol prvý cech, klobučnícky, a cez 17. storočie ho nasledovali ďalšie. Z približne rovnakého obdobia je aj zmienka o pivovare, ktorý cez mnohé zmeny majiteľov a budov prežil až do 20. storočia.
