After 1918 the Dunajec became a frontier between two brand-new states, and since 1920 the river itself carries the line for seventeen kilometres, from Lysá nad Dunajcom down to the Lesnický stream. That same settlement, decided by the Conference of Ambassadors on 28 July 1920, handed fourteen Spiš villages to Poland and left the district town of Spišská Stará Ves with most of its district gone. And then the two governments did something better than argue: on 17 July 1932, here at Červený Kláštor, the Slovak nature reserve in the Pieniny was declared alongside the Polish park on the other bank — described as the first international nature park in Europe. Two states that had just been quarrelling over a border agreed to protect the thing the border ran through.Po roku 1918 sa Dunajec stal hranicou medzi dvoma úplne novými štátmi a od roku 1920 vedie čiara priamo korytom rieky na sedemnástich kilometroch, od Lysej nad Dunajcom po Lesnický potok. To isté rozhodnutie veľvyslaneckej konferencie z 28. júla 1920 odovzdalo Poľsku štrnásť spišských obcí a Spišskej Starej Vsi zostal okres bez väčšiny územia. A potom urobili obe vlády niečo lepšie než hádku: 17. júla 1932 tu, v Červenom Kláštore, vyhlásili slovenskú prírodnú rezerváciu v Pieninách popri poľskom parku na druhom brehu — a súčasne prvý medzinárodný prírodný park v Európe. Dva štáty, ktoré sa práve doťahovali o hranicu, sa dohodli chrániť to, kadiaľ tá hranica viedla.
