In the 800s this hill was one of the strongholds of Great Moravia, the first state of the Slavs on this territory. Archaeologists digging on the summit found the foundations of a stone church — the largest Great Moravian basilica known from Slovakia, built in the second half of the ninth century. Stone building was expensive and rare then, so a church that size means a prince, a court and priests: this was a centre, not an outpost on the edge of one. Part of what was excavated is shown in an underground exhibition beneath the courtyard, although what is on display changes with the museum's programme, so check before you count on it.V 9. storočí patril kopec k oporným bodom Veľkej Moravy, prvého štátu Slovanov na tomto území.
