Bratislava CastleBratislavský hrad
When Maria Theresa died in 1780 her son Joseph II moved the government offices to Buda, and the castle lost its reason to be a palace almost overnight. In 1783 it was handed over to a general seminary — a state college training Catholic priests — and one of its students was Anton Bernolák, who in 1787 published the first codification of a written Slovak language. The first standard Slovak therefore has its address on this hill. In the same years the crown left for Vienna, in 1801 the seminary was closed, and the army moved into the empty rooms; with the Napoleonic wars on, French artillery shelled the castle from across the Danube in 1809.Keď Mária Terézia v roku 1780 zomrela, jej syn Jozef II. presunul úrady do Budína a hrad zo dňa na deň stratil dôvod byť palácom. V tých istých rokoch odišla do Viedne koruna, v roku 1801 seminár zrušili a do prázdnych miestností sa nasťahovalo vojsko; a keďže zúrili napoleonské vojny, v roku 1809 hrad ostreľovalo francúzske delostrelectvo spoza Dunaja.
