The Slavs arrived on the terraces above the two rivers, and the finds prove it: material of the 8th and 9th centuries has come out of the site of Priekopa in Môťová, on the western edge of today's town. The hilltop above the confluence was fortified. This was the age of Great Moravia, and although no chronicle names Zvolen in it, the settlement on the hill was already the strongest place for a long way around — which is why the kingdom that came next simply took it over instead of building somewhere new.Slovania sa usadili na terasách nad oboma riekami a nálezy to dokladajú: materiál z 8. a 9. storočia pochádza z lokality Priekopa v Môťovej na západnom okraji dnešného mesta. Vrch nad sútokom bol opevnený. Bol to čas Veľkej Moravy a hoci Zvolen v nej žiadna kronika nespomína, hradisko na kopci už vtedy bolo najsilnejším bodom na široké okolie — a práve preto ho kráľovstvo, ktoré prišlo po nej, jednoducho prevzalo namiesto toho, aby stavalo inde.
