5000 BC – 3rd century AD Four valleys, and people in all of themŠtyri doliny a ľudia vo všetkých

Zvolen sits where four valleys meet, and people noticed that very early. The oldest traces of human presence are stone-age finds from the sites of Bakova jama and Medzi hliniskami; by about 5000 BC there were settled potters here. In the late Bronze Age the hill later called Pustý hrad was already occupied, and it has given up bronze hoards; at the site of Krivá púť archaeologists opened a cemetery of 143 graves of the Lusatian culture. Pottery of the Púchov culture from the last two centuries BC, and finds running on into the 3rd century AD, show that the basin was never really empty.Zvolen leží tam, kde sa stretávajú štyri doliny, a ľudia si to všimli veľmi skoro. Najstaršie stopy po človeku sú kamenné nálezy z lokalít Bakova jama a Medzi hliniskami; okolo roku 5000 pred Kr. tu už sídlili roľníci s keramikou. V neskorej dobe bronzovej bol osídlený aj kopec, ktorému dnes hovoríme Pustý hrad, a vydal bronzové depoty; na Krivej púti odkryli archeológovia pohrebisko so 143 hrobmi ľudu lužickej kultúry. Keramika púchovskej kultúry z posledných dvoch storočí pred Kr. a nálezy siahajúce až do 3. storočia po Kr. ukazujú, že kotlina nikdy naozaj nespustla.
