1360 – 1385 The king moves down into the townKráľ sa sťahuje dole do mesta

Between 1360 and 1382 Louis I the Great built a new castle — not on the rock, but on level ground at the lower end of the town's long square, on the model of the Italian urban palaces his Angevin family knew. It was a hunting seat, and the forests of the Zvolen basin and Poľana were the reason for it. The town below took the shape it still has: one very long, wide market square running north to south, the castle closing its lower end and the Gothic parish church of St Elizabeth standing free at the upper one. In 1385 Louis's daughter Mary was married to Sigismund of Luxembourg here, and the castle became a favourite of his for the next fifty years.V rokoch 1360 – 1382 postavil Ľudovít I. Veľký nový hrad — nie na skale, ale na rovine na dolnom konci dlhého mestského námestia, podľa vzoru talianskych mestských palácov, ktoré jeho anjouovský rod poznal. Mesto pod ním dostalo podobu, ktorú má dodnes: jedno veľmi dlhé široké trhové námestie v smere sever – juh, zámok uzatvárajúci jeho dolný koniec a voľne stojaci gotický farský Kostol svätej Alžbety na hornom. V roku 1385 sa tu vydala Ľudovítova dcéra Mária za Žigmunda Luxemburského a hrad sa na ďalších päťdesiat rokov stal jeho obľúbeným sídlom.
