Among the German-speaking population of Spiš the Nazi Deutsche Partei and its Heimatschutz militia were strong, and when the Slovak National Uprising broke out in August 1944 Spiš Germans were armed against it. The German civilians were evacuated westward that winter, and on 27 January 1945 the Red Army drove the Wehrmacht out of Spišská Belá.Medzi nemeckým obyvateľstvom Spiša mala silné postavenie nacistická Deutsche Partei a jej milícia Heimatschutz, a keď v auguste 1944 vypuklo Slovenské národné povstanie, spišských Nemcov ozbrojili proti nemu. Nemeckých civilistov tú zimu evakuovali na západ a 27. januára 1945 vytlačila Červená armáda wehrmacht zo Spišskej Belej.
