The Slovak National Uprising of 29 August 1944 was fought in central Slovakia and never reached this corner. What reached Snina was the front. The Soviet offensive through the Carpathians began on 8 September 1944 and crossed the old Czechoslovak border on 6 October; the fighting cost the Soviet and Czechoslovak armies tens of thousands of men. The Red Army entered Snina on 25 November 1944, one day before Humenné — the towns of the east were freed from east to west, in the order the front reached them. The strip Hungary had taken in 1939 came back to Czechoslovakia with them.Slovenské národné povstanie z 29. augusta 1944 sa bilo na strednom Slovensku a do tohto kúta nikdy nedosiahlo. Do Sniny dorazil front. Sovietska ofenzíva cez Karpaty sa začala 8. septembra 1944 a 6. októbra prekročila starú československú hranicu; boje stáli sovietsku a československú armádu desaťtisíce mužov. Červená armáda vstúpila do Sniny 25. novembra 1944, deň pred Humenným — mestá východu sa oslobodzovali od východu na západ, v poradí, v akom k nim front prišiel. Spolu s nimi sa do Československa vrátil aj pás, ktorý si Maďarsko vzalo v roku 1939.
