Between the wars tens of thousands of guests came each season, among them the singer Richard Tauber, the film star Henny Porten, the writer Selma Lagerlöf, the painter Alfons Mucha and Indian maharajas — and for once the money went into the town as well as into the island. Ľudovít Winter, who ran the spa, and Alexander Šindelár, who was both mayor and dean, pushed through two new bridges over the Váh, a post and telegraph office, a burgher school, municipal and district offices and asphalt roads. The most important of it was the least photogenic: between 1925 and 1931 the first flood embankments were finally raised along the river, an answer three hundred years late to the floods of 1683, 1744 and 1813. The airfield, working from 1926, became the main base of the Czechoslovak air force in Slovakia — which is why the next war would come to Piešťany out of the sky.Medzi vojnami prichádzali každú sezónu desaťtisíce hostí, medzi nimi spevák Richard Tauber, filmová hviezda Henny Portenová, spisovateľka Selma Lagerlöfová, maliar Alfons Mucha či indickí maharadžovia — a peniaze tentoraz išli nielen na ostrov, ale aj do mesta. Ľudovít Winter, ktorý viedol kúpele, a Alexander Šindelár, ktorý bol starostom aj dekanom, spolu presadili dva nové mosty cez Váh, poštový a telegrafný úrad, meštiansku školu, obecný a okresný úrad aj asfaltové cesty. Najdôležitejšie z toho bolo to najmenej fotogenické: v rokoch 1925 – 1931 konečne vyrástli pozdĺž rieky prvé protipovodňové hrádze, odpoveď o tristo rokov oneskorená na povodne z rokov 1683, 1744 a 1813. Letisko, v prevádzke od roku 1926, sa stalo hlavnou základňou československého letectva na Slovensku — a práve preto prišla ďalšia vojna do Piešťan zhora.
