The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov
PiešťanyPiešťany
Nothing is recorded about what the Mongol invasion of 1241 did to the village by the springs, and it would be easy — and wrong — to invent a story about it. What is attested is the answer to the invasion. Tematín castle was raised on the ridge of the Považský Inovec above the valley, probably immediately after the Mongols left in 1242, on the site of an older hillfort; it first appears in writing in 1270. Together with Trenčín, Beckov and Čachtice it watched the north-western passes into the kingdom and guarded a ford over the Váh. This is the pattern right across Slovakia: the stone castles are mostly what came after 1241, not what was destroyed by it.O tom, čo vpád Mongolov roku 1241 urobil dedine pri prameňoch, sa nezachovalo nič, a bolo by ľahké — a nesprávne — vymyslieť si o tom príbeh. Spolu s Trenčínom, Beckovom a Čachticami strážil severozápadné priesmyky do kráľovstva a bránil dôležitý brod cez Váh. Taký je vzor po celom Slovensku: kamenné hrady sú väčšinou to, čo po roku 1241 vzniklo, nie to, čo vtedy zaniklo.
