Men from villages like this one were conscripted into Austro-Hungarian regiments in 1914, and within months the war had come to their own doorstep. In the winter of 1914–15 the Russian army pushed over the Carpathian passes north and east of here, and the battles to hold and retake them killed and crippled soldiers on both sides in numbers nobody had expected. The military cemeteries scattered across the north-east of Slovakia date from those months. For a small hill village the war meant absent men, requisitioned animals, and letters that stopped coming.Mužov z takýchto dedín odviedli roku 1914 do rakúsko-uhorských plukov a o pár mesiacov mali vojnu priamo pred domom. V zime 1914 – 1915 prenikla ruská armáda cez karpatské priesmyky severne a východne odtiaľto a boje o ich udržanie a znovudobytie zabili a zmrzačili vojakov na oboch stranách v počtoch, aké nikto nečakal. Vojenské cintoríny roztrúsené po severovýchode Slovenska pochádzajú práve z týchto mesiacov. Pre malú horskú obec znamenala vojna chýbajúcich chlapov, zrekvirovaný dobytok a listy, ktoré prestali chodiť.
