The end of the planned economy hit a town built around one crop and one factory. Sugar processing at Trebišov came to an end in the 2000s, when the European Union's reform of its sugar regime cut the whole of Slovakia to a couple of refineries. What replaced it is a mixed industrial estate — engineering, plastics, building materials, haulage — together with the ordinary employers of a district seat: hospital, schools, offices. The manor, the park and the mausoleum stayed, which is why the Andrássys are still the first thing anyone here tells a visitor.Koniec plánovaného hospodárstva zasiahol mesto postavené na jednej plodine a jednej fabrike. Spracovanie cukru sa v Trebišove skončilo v prvom desaťročí po roku 2000, keď reforma cukrového režimu Európskej únie zredukovala celé Slovensko na dva cukrovary. Nahradila ho zmiešaná priemyselná zóna — strojárstvo, plasty, stavebné materiály, doprava — spolu s bežnými zamestnávateľmi okresného mesta: nemocnicou, školami a úradmi. Kaštieľ, park a mauzóleum zostali, a preto sú Andrássyovci stále to prvé, čo tu človeku o meste povedia.
