In 1387 King Sigismund of Luxembourg granted the castle and its estate to Péter Perényi, and the Perényis held Trebišov, on and off, for the next two hundred years. A grant like this was not generosity: Sigismund had just come to a contested throne and was paying his supporters in land, which is how most great Hungarian noble fortunes began. The family rebuilt and enlarged the castle and made the town the centre of their lordship. Rod hrad prestaval a rozšíril a z mestečka urobil stredisko svojho panstva. Ich meno je späté takmer so všetkým, čo sa tu dialo až do reformácie.
