About 1502 Imrich Perényi — soon afterwards palatine, the highest office in the kingdom after the king — founded a house of Pauline friars beside the castle and endowed it generously. The Paulines were the one monastic order founded in Hungary itself, which is why they turn up so often in this country and almost nowhere else. The house lasted less than thirty years: the Perényis went over to the Reformation and from 1530 the monastery stood empty for well over a century. That happened across the whole kingdom, and it is why so many Slovak towns have a church older than the congregation now using it.Okolo roku 1502 založil Imrich Perényi — o pár rokov neskôr palatín, čo bol po kráľovi najvyšší úrad v krajine — vedľa hradu kláštor pavlínov a bohato ho obdaroval. Pavlíni boli jediná mníšska rehoľa založená priamo v Uhorsku, a preto sa tu vyskytujú tak často a inde takmer vôbec. Kláštor vydržal necelých tridsať rokov: Perényiovci prešli na reformáciu a od roku 1530 stál viac ako storočie prázdny. Dialo sa to v celom kráľovstve a je to dôvod, prečo má toľko slovenských miest kostol starší ako farnosť, ktorá ho dnes používa.
