The Velvet Revolution began on 17 November 1989 with the beating of a student demonstration in Prague. On 27 November the whole country stopped work for two hours in a general strike, and towns like this one gathered on their own squares — this one nearly a kilometre of it. Nobody was shot and nothing was burned. By the end of December the one-party state was finished.Nežná revolúcia sa začala 17. novembra 1989 zbitím študentskej demonštrácie v Prahe. 27. novembra zastavila celá krajina na dve hodiny prácu — generálny štrajk — a mestá ako toto sa schádzali na svojom námestí, tu dlhom takmer kilometer. Nikto nebol zastrelený a nič nezhorelo. Do konca decembra bola vláda jednej strany minulosťou.
