9th–10th century Where two worlds metKde sa stretli dva svety

Finds from the ninth and tenth centuries show the ridges were still lived on while Great Moravia rose and fell to the west and Hungarian clans rode in from the east through the Carpathian passes. This flat country is one of the places where the two worlds met: Slav villages already here, newcomers settling among them. Medieval Hungarian chroniclers, writing three centuries after the event, put the arriving Hungarians' first camps in exactly this corner — that is a good story rather than good evidence, but the archaeology does at least show people living here at the time. Stredovekí uhorskí kronikári, ktorí písali o tristo rokov neskôr, kládli prvé tábory prichádzajúcich Maďarov práve sem — je to skôr pekné rozprávanie než dôkaz, no archeológia aspoň potvrdzuje, že tu vtedy ľudia žili. Zmiešaný, dvojjazyčný ráz Medzibodrožia sa začína práve takto dávno.
