Bronze Age Sand ridges above the floodPiesočné chrbty nad vodou

Archaeologists have found traces of Bronze Age settlement in this corner of the plain. That sounds unremarkable until you look at the ground: the Medzibodrožie was a maze of river channels, reed beds and marsh that flooded every spring, and the only places a person could live were low ridges of wind-blown sand standing a few metres above the water. Those ridges decided where every village in this country stood for the next three thousand years. Much later they also decided where a railway yard could be laid out.Archeológovia našli v tomto kúte roviny stopy osídlenia z doby bronzovej. Znie to nezaujímavo, kým sa človek nepozrie na terén: Medzibodrožie bolo spleťou riečnych ramien, trstín a močarísk, ktoré sa každú jar rozliali, a bývať sa dalo iba na nízkych chrbtoch naviateho piesku, vyvýšených pár metrov nad hladinu. Tieto chrbty určili na ďalšie tri tisícročia, kde tu budú stáť dediny. O mnoho storočí neskôr určili aj to, kadiaľ sa dá položiť železničné prekladisko.
