The new castle was fought over almost at once: in 1273 Hungarian and Bohemian troops clashed beneath its walls, in the war between the Kingdom of Hungary and Ottokar II of Bohemia. Around a castle like this the king built an estate — the Plavecké panstvo, a block of villages whose rents, grain and labour kept the garrison alive. Malacky was one of those villages, an ordinary farming place on the road, and for the next three centuries its history is the estate's history. In 1398 the whole domain went to Stibor of Stiborice, one of the most powerful lords in the kingdom, which tells you what a frontier castle was worth.O nový hrad sa bojovalo takmer okamžite: v roku 1273 sa pod jeho hradbami zrazili uhorské a české vojská vo vojne medzi Uhorskom a českým kráľom Přemyslom Otakarom II. Okolo takého hradu vzniklo panstvo — Plavecké panstvo, súbor dedín, ktorých dávky, obilie a robota živili posádku. Malacky boli jednou z nich, obyčajnou roľníckou dedinou pri ceste, a na ďalšie tri storočia sú ich dejiny dejinami panstva.
