In 1241 Mongol armies broke into the kingdom and destroyed its army; villages that could not be defended were burned. No chronicle records what happened in this corner of Záhorie, and the honest answer is that we do not know. What we do know is what King Béla IV did next: he pushed his nobles to build in stone on high ground, and between 1256 and 1273 Detrich, son of Kunt the town judge of Bratislava, raised Plavecký hrad on a limestone spur above the villages under the ridge. Its Hungarian name Detrekő — "Detrich's rock" — remembers the builder; its Slovak name remembers the Plavci, the Cumans, a steppe people settled along this frontier to guard it.V roku 1241 vtrhli do kráľovstva mongolské vojská a jeho armádu rozdrvili; dediny, ktoré sa nemali ako brániť, ľahli popolom. Maďarské meno Detrekő — „Detrichova skala“ — pripomína staviteľa, slovenské meno Plavcov, teda Kumánov, ktorých sem usadili strážiť hranicu.
