Czechoslovakia was declared in 1918 and this valley joined it with nothing left to mine. The water system that had run the pumps for four centuries went out of use around the turn of the century, and the village lived on wood, on smallholdings, on lace and on money sent home from abroad. Houses built for shift workers were now simply houses. It is worth noticing what did not happen: the place was not abandoned and not rebuilt. That is the only reason there is still a whole miners' village standing here to look at.Roku 1918 vzniklo Československo a táto dolina doň vstúpila bez toho, aby v nej ostalo čo ťažiť. Vodná sústava, ktorá štyri storočia poháňala čerpadlá, prestala na prelome storočí slúžiť a obec žila z dreva, z malých gazdovstiev, z čipky a z peňazí posielaných z cudziny. Domy postavené pre šichtárov boli odrazu len domami. Stojí za povšimnutie, čo sa nestalo: obec nikto neopustil a nikto ju neprestaval. Len preto tu dodnes stojí celá banícka dedina, na ktorú sa dá pozerať.
