11th–12th century The king's forest, and the ore under itKráľovský les a ruda pod ním

When the Kingdom of Hungary took shape, these mountains were royal forest — hunting ground and timber, administered from Zvolen, with almost nobody living in them. The start of mining in the medieval sense is usually put at the eleventh or twelfth century, which means people were coming back to ore their distant ancestors had abandoned. There is no charter to prove it and no village yet, only workings in the hillside. What matters is the pattern that begins here: the ore is the only reason anyone lives in this valley, and it decides everything that follows.Keď sa formovalo Uhorské kráľovstvo, boli tieto vrchy kráľovským lesom — poľovačkou a drevom, spravovaným zo Zvolena, takmer bez trvalých obyvateľov.
