15th to 18th century Water on the hillsides, and the bottom of the oreVoda po svahoch a dno rudy

Keeping deep mines dry needs power, and power meant water. A system of collecting, feeding and connecting channels about 36 kilometres long was built from the fifteenth century onwards and worked into the twentieth, bringing water along the hillsides from distant valleys to drive the pumps and hoists. New shafts went down in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries — Maximilián, Mária, and the deepest of them, Ludovika, at 440 metres. It was superb engineering aimed at a shrinking prize: by the second half of the eighteenth century the ore was largely worked out, and everything after that is a long ending.Udržať hlboké bane suché si žiada silu a silou bola voda. Sústava zberných, náhonových a spojovacích jarkov dlhá asi 36 kilometrov sa budovala od 15. storočia a fungovala až do začiatku 20., privádzala vodu po svahoch zo vzdialených dolín a poháňala čerpadlá a ťažné stroje. V 17. a 18. storočí pribudli nové šachty — Maximilián, Mária a najhlbšia z nich, Ludovika, ktorá klesla do 440 metrov. Bolo to znamenité inžinierstvo namierené na čoraz menšiu korisť: v druhej polovici 18. storočia bola ruda z veľkej časti vyťažená a všetko ďalšie je už len dlhé dochádzanie.
