1287, and the early 14th century Two villages called RužbachyDvoje Ružbách

The first written mention of the old Ružbachy is from 1287, in a grant of forest between the towns of Podolínec and Hniezdne. Henrich, the šoltýs of Podolínec — the man licensed to found a settlement, measure out the plots and then run it — laid out a village by the river Poprad called Antiqua Rausbach, old Ružbachy: today's Nižné Ružbachy, further down the valley. New Ružbachy, the Vyšné of today, was started at the beginning of the fourteenth century by landowners from the older village.
