Around 1610 the Drugeths pulled down the old stone castle in the middle of the town and put up a Renaissance chateau with a park in its place — a house to live in rather than a fortress to survive in. Three years later, in 1613, they founded a Jesuit college here: the first secondary school in the town's history, and part of the Catholic Church's campaign to win back a region that the Reformation had largely taken. A fire in 1619 wrecked the new chateau and Count Gabriel Drugeth rebuilt it as the four-winged building with corner towers you can still walk around today. The whole ordinary shape of Humenné — a lord's residence at the centre and a school beside it — was decided in that one decade. Roku 1619 kaštieľ vyhorel a gróf Gabriel Drugeth ho dal prestavať do štvorkrídlovej podoby s nárožnými vežami, akú má dodnes. Bežná podoba Humenného — panské sídlo v strede a škola vedľa neho — sa teda rozhodla počas jediného desaťročia.
