Brekov CastleBrekovský hrad

A bare ruin on a startlingly white limestone crag above the village of Brekov, where the Laborec comes down out of Humenné and turns south. From the valley road the hill reads as rock first and castle second — the crag is the monument, and the walls are what somebody later added to it. It went up in the thirteenth century to watch this corridor, and it has stood open to the sky since the early eighteenth.
