Veľké KapušanyVeľké Kapušany
Joseph II dissolved scores of monastic houses in the 1780s and their estates changed hands; after his reign Kapušany belonged to the Premonstratensian provostry at Jasov, right across the other side of eastern Slovakia. In 1799 the geographer András Vályi described the place plainly as a small Hungarian village of Catholic and Reformed inhabitants. That is a useful corrective to the word 'town': a market town in this period could be a few hundred people, a church, a fair three times a year and a great deal of mud. Je to užitočná oprava k slovu „mestečko“: v tom čase to mohlo znamenať pár stoviek ľudí, kostol, tri jarmoky do roka a veľmi veľa blata.
