In 1960 a nationwide reorganisation abolished the Kráľovský Chlmec district and merged the Bodrogköz into the district of Trebišov, where it has stayed ever since — the town lost the offices that had been half its reason to exist. Four years later, in 1964, it was granted the status of a town in its own right. Farming was collectivised, the state farm and the cooperative became the main employers, and the drained plain grew cereals, maize and vegetables on a scale nobody had managed before. It remained, as it remains now, the natural centre that the villages of the Bodrogköz come to, whatever the map of districts says.V roku 1960 zrušila celoštátna reorganizácia okres Kráľovský Chlmec a Medzibodrožie pripojila k okresu Trebišov, kde ostalo dodnes — mesto prišlo o úrady, ktoré boli polovicou dôvodu jeho existencie.
