1332–1337 A parish with a priest called MiklósFarnosť s kňazom Mikulášom

Between 1332 and 1337 papal tax collectors worked their way through the Kingdom of Hungary writing down every parish that owed a tithe, and Helmech is in their register with a priest named Miklós. One entry in a tax book proves the place already had a church and a congregation, not just a scatter of houses. Through the fourteenth century the district belonged for several decades to the Ákos family, one of the great clans of the age. The town sat in Zemplín county, and the flat land around it was still mostly water.V rokoch 1332 – 1337 prešli pápežskí výbercovia desiatkov celé Uhorské kráľovstvo a zapísali každú faru, ktorá platila daň; Helmech je v ich registri aj s kňazom menom Mikuláš. Jediný zápis v daňovej knihe dokazuje, že tu už bol kostol a farnosť, nie iba zopár domov. V priebehu 14. storočia patril kraj niekoľko desaťročí rodu Ákosovcov, jednému z veľkých rodov tej doby. Mestečko ležalo v Zemplínskej stolici a rovina okolo neho bola stále väčšinou pod vodou.
