Once the frontier had gone, what Tornaľa had left was its road. In the eighteenth century it became a busy posting station on the route along the Slaná, where the mail changed horses and travellers stopped for the night. It stayed small: a survey of 1828 counted 622 people in 96 houses, and 708 by 1837. That is a large village, not a town. Everything that would make Tornaľa a town was still fifty years away, and it would arrive on rails.Keď hranica zmizla, zostala Tornali jej cesta.
