A tax list of 1427 counts forty-six peasant holdings here, which made Tornaľa a substantial place by the standards of the Slaná valley. In the middle of the century the Hussite troops who held much of northern Hungary occupied it too, and the army of King Matthias Corvinus took it back in 1459 as he cleared them out of Gemer.
