Modern industry reached the town in 1907, when a glassworks was built in Nová Baňa itself — the old forest trade of Stará Huta brought down into a factory with a chimney and a shift system. For a town that had just lost its mines this mattered: it was work that did not depend on ore. Industry rather than mining is what Nová Baňa has lived on ever since.Moderný priemysel prišiel do mesta v roku 1907, keď priamo v Novej Bani postavili sklársky závod — staré lesné remeslo zo Starej Huty zišlo dolu do fabriky s komínom a so zmenami. Pre mesto, ktoré práve prišlo o bane, to bolo dôležité: bola to práca, ktorá nezávisela od rudy. Odvtedy žije Nová Baňa z priemyslu, nie z baníctva.
