Wood is still the trade. The sawmills and joineries beside the railway work timber cut in the Malá Fatra and the Veľká Fatra, and whoever they do not employ, Martin and Vrútky do — people commute the short distance down the basin to the engineering plants, the railway works and the hospital. On 1 January 2016 Turany became a town again, recovering the standing it had held from 1397 until the end of Austria-Hungary. The motorway still stops short of it: the missing section of the D1 up the Váh is one of the longest-running gaps in the Slovak road network.Drevo je stále remeslom obce. Píly a stolárske dielne pri železnici spracúvajú drevo z Malej i Veľkej Fatry, a koho nezamestnajú ony, toho Martin a Vrútky — ľudia dochádzajú kúsok dole kotlinou do strojární, rušňových dielní a nemocnice. 1. januára 2016 sa Turany opäť stali mestom a získali späť postavenie, ktoré mali od roku 1397 až do konca Rakúsko-Uhorska. Diaľnica sa k mestu dodnes nedostala: chýbajúci úsek D1 hore Váhom je jednou z najdlhšie otvorených medzier slovenskej cestnej siete.
