The Ottoman armies that took the middle of the kingdom never came this far north, so the sixteenth century here is a story of paperwork rather than sieges. Ferdinand I confirmed the town's privileges in 1563 and added three annual fairs and a weekly market; Maximilian II confirmed them once more in 1574. A tax list of 1557 counts 48 households. The estate belonged to Sklabiňa, and from the sixteenth century into the nineteenth its lords were the Révay family, who held the county office along with the castle.
