In 1397 King Sigismund of Luxembourg granted Turany the rights of a market town under the law of Krupina, including the right to build a mill and to use the rivers and the forests freely — which, in a place ringed by trees, was the whole point. In 1405 he exempted the townspeople from taxes, though those rights were soon transferred to the local nobility instead of staying with the town. Matthias Corvinus confirmed the privileges again in 1461.
