On 8 December 1871 the first train ran through Turany: the Košice–Bohumín line, built across the north of the kingdom to carry Silesian coal to the east, had reached this stretch of the Váh. Overnight, timber could leave by the wagonload. On 2 June 1874 the town leased land on the right bank of the river to a firm from Budapest, which built a sawmill working by 1887 (another account dates the mill to 1889); a credit union followed in 1903. Cutting timber where it grew was now worth more than floating it away, and rafting on this stretch of the Váh went out of business.8. decembra 1871 prešiel Turanmi prvý vlak: Košicko-bohumínska železnica, stavaná naprieč severom Uhorska na dopravu sliezskeho uhlia na východ, dorazila aj na tento úsek Váhu. Drevo mohlo odrazu odchádzať po vagónoch. 2. júna 1874 prenajalo mestečko pozemky na pravom brehu rieky budapeštianskej firme, ktorá tu postavila pílu — v prevádzke bola od roku 1887 (iný prameň kladie pílu do roku 1889); v roku 1903 pribudlo úverové družstvo. Píliť drevo priamo tam, kde rástlo, sa zrazu oplácalo viac než ho splavovať, a pltníctvo na tomto úseku Váhu skončilo.
