The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov
SkalicaSkalica
In 1241 a Mongol army destroyed the Hungarian royal army at Muhi and rode across the kingdom, and King Béla IV spent the rest of his reign making sure it could not happen the same way twice. His answer was stone: he pushed lords and towns to build stone castles where there had been earth banks and timber palisades. Nothing is recorded of what happened at Skalica itself in that year, and honest history says so rather than inventing a siege. What is recorded is the result — the royal castle at Holíč, eight kilometres away and guarding the same river crossing, was rebuilt in stone in the decades after the invasion.V roku 1241 rozdrvilo mongolské vojsko pri Mohi uhorskú kráľovskú armádu a prehnalo sa celým kráľovstvom; kráľ Belo IV. potom strávil zvyšok vlády tým, aby sa to nemohlo zopakovať.
