In the ninth century the island belonged to the Principality of Nitra and then to Great Moravia. As at every village on the Žitný ostrov, nothing yet found at Šamorín can be tied to that state by name, so the correct thing to say is that the island was Moravian and that the town, as a town, did not yet exist. The Moravian centres of power were further north and east — Nitra, the castle hill of Bratislava, Devín — and this was their farmland. Moravian rule ended in 907, when Hungarian horsemen destroyed a Bavarian army near Bratislava, and the island passed to the Hungarians who have worked and named much of it ever since.V 9. storočí patril ostrov Nitrianskemu kniežatstvu a potom Veľkej Morave. Moravská moc sa skončila roku 907, keď staromaďarskí jazdci rozbili pri Bratislave bavorské vojsko, a ostrov prešiel k Maďarom, ktorí ho odvtedy z veľkej časti obrábajú a pomenúvajú.
