The Hungarian physicist Loránd Eötvös had built an instrument, the torsion balance, delicate enough to measure the tiny differences in gravity caused by heavier or lighter rock deep underground. In 1915 it was carried out into the fields around Egbell and used to map the buried structure that held the oil — the first time anywhere in the world that a geophysical instrument successfully found petroleum. Every seismic survey since, everywhere on earth, descends from that summer's work in a Záhorie stubble field. Eötvös died in 1919, before the method he made possible went round the world.Maďarský fyzik Loránd Eötvös zostrojil prístroj — torznú váhu — taký citlivý, že vedel merať nepatrné rozdiely v tiaži spôsobené ťažšou či ľahšou horninou hlboko pod zemou. V roku 1915 ho vyniesli do polí okolo Egbellu a zmapovali ním pochovanú štruktúru, v ktorej ležala ropa — prvý raz na svete našiel ropu geofyzikálny prístroj. Každý seizmický prieskum na svete od tých čias pochádza z práce, ktorá sa v to leto robila na strnisku na Záhorí. Eötvös zomrel v roku 1919, skôr než metóda, ktorú umožnil, obišla svet.
