Holíč ChâteauHolíčsky zámok

In 1627 the fortress was taken by the troops of Gabriel Bethlen, prince of Transylvania, who fought three wars against the Habsburg emperors with Ottoman backing. It is worth saying that precisely, because half the castles in Slovakia are locally said to have been "destroyed by the Turks". The seventeenth century here was mostly a sequence of uprisings of the Hungarian nobility against the Habsburgs — Bethlen, then Thököly, then Rákóczi — and the damage they did is very often the damage that gets blamed on the Ottomans. Holíč came through all of it. It was never destroyed, and that is exactly why there was still something standing here worth turning into a palace.V roku 1627 obsadili pevnosť vojská sedmohradského kniežaťa Gabriela Betlena, ktorý viedol proti habsburským cisárom tri vojny s osmanskou podporou. Holíč to všetko prežil. Nikdy nebol zničený, a práve preto tu ešte stálo niečo, z čoho sa dal urobiť palác.
