By the early fifteenth century Dubnica belonged to the Trenčín castle estate, and it briefly profited from its neighbour's disaster. When the town of Ilava was wrecked in the fighting with the Hussites in 1432, the annual fairs Ilava had held for generations were transferred here. Ilava complained to the king, and in 1435 Sigismund ordered the captain of Trenčín to send the fairs back. Dubnica had to wait another two hundred years for a fair right of its own, which it finally got in 1639.Začiatkom 15. storočia patrila Dubnica k trenčianskemu hradnému panstvu a nakrátko získala na nešťastí suseda.
