On 28 June 1276 two men named Samson and Jakub sold Dubnica to a certain Oltuman and his son Chamar for fifty marks of silver. The charter recording that sale mentions, for the first time, a church here dedicated to St James the Apostle — and that church, rebuilt many times over, is still the oldest thing in the town. Sale charters like this one are the ordinary raw material of medieval history: nobody bothered to write down what daily life was like, but everybody wrote down who owned what.Dvadsiateho ôsmeho júna 1276 predali Samson a Jakub Dubnicu istému Oltumanovi a jeho synovi Chamarovi za päťdesiat hrivien striebra. Listina o tomto predaji po prvý raz spomína miestny kostol zasvätený svätému Jakubovi apoštolovi – a ten, mnohokrát prestavaný, je dodnes najstaršou pamiatkou mesta. Kúpno-predajné listiny sú bežnou surovinou stredovekých dejín: ako sa vtedy žilo, nezapísal nikto, ale kto čo vlastní, si zapisoval každý.
