Štrba spent years in court over the boundary drawn in 1949, and in 2007 it won. The Supreme Court ruled on 3 May, and with effect from 7 October 2007 some 2,016 hectares of the Štrbské Pleso area passed into Štrba's own cadastre, while the town of Vysoké Tatry kept the much larger remainder. That is how a farming village on a windy saddle came to hold a share of Slovakia's best-known mountain resort. Slovak spelling keeps the three places apart even when visitors cannot: Štrbské pleso with a small p is the lake itself, Štrbské Pleso with a capital is the settlement, and Štrba is the working village with the mainline station and the view of the whole ridge.Štrba sa o hranicu vytýčenú roku 1949 roky súdila — a roku 2007 vyhrala. Najvyšší súd rozhodol 3. mája a s účinnosťou od 7. októbra 2007 prešlo približne 2 016 hektárov územia Štrbského Plesa do štrbského katastra; mestu Vysoké Tatry zostal podstatne väčší zvyšok. Tak sa stalo, že roľnícka dedina na veternom sedle má podiel na najznámejšom horskom stredisku Slovenska. Pravopis tie tri miesta rozlišuje aj vtedy, keď to návštevníkom nejde: Štrbské pleso s malým p je samo jazero, Štrbské Pleso s veľkým je osada a Štrba je pracujúca dedina so stanicou na hlavnej trati a s výhľadom na celý hrebeň.
