ŠtrbaŠtrba

Most of Štrba was Lutheran, and for a hundred years after the Counter-Reformation Lutherans in Hungary were barred from building churches openly. Joseph II's Patent of Toleration of 1781 lifted the ban, but with conditions that tell you exactly how grudging it was: a tolerated church was to have no tower, no bells and no door onto the street. Štrba's Evangelical church, built in 1784, is one of those buildings — plain, single-naved, made to be inconspicuous — and it did not get its tower until 1928, a hundred and forty-four years later. The census of the same year, 1784, found 141 houses and 1,190 people in the village.Väčšina Štrbanov bola evanjelická a sto rokov po protireformácii nesmeli evanjelici v Uhorsku stavať kostoly otvorene. Tolerančný patent Jozefa II. z roku 1781 zákaz zrušil — no podmienky presne prezrádzajú, aké neochotné to povolenie bolo: tolerančný kostol nesmel mať vežu, zvony ani vchod z ulice. Štrbský evanjelický kostol z roku 1784 je práve takou stavbou: jednoduchá jednoloďová budova, postavená tak, aby nebolo vidieť. Vežu dostal až roku 1928, o stoštyridsaťštyri rokov neskôr. Súpis z toho istého roku 1784 zaznamenal v obci 141 domov a 1 190 obyvateľov.
