ŠtrbaŠtrba

In the spring of 1241 a Mongol army broke into the Kingdom of Hungary and destroyed the royal army at the river Slaná. King Béla IV's answer shaped the next century: build in stone instead of timber, and put people back on the land that had been emptied. Up here it is the second half of that answer that matters. In 1269 a nobleman called comes Bohumírcomes means a king's officer over a district — was granted this large and mostly forested stretch of the saddle on condition that he settle it. The same grant produced Važec, four kilometres to the west. Štrba is therefore not an accident of geography but a deliberate act of colonisation, made in the decades after the Mongols left.Na jar roku 1241 vpadlo do Uhorska mongolské vojsko a pri rieke Slanej rozdrvilo kráľovskú armádu. Odpoveď kráľa Belu IV. určila celé nasledujúce storočie: stavať z kameňa namiesto dreva a znovu zaľudniť vyprázdnenú pôdu.
