The Velvet Revolution began on 17 November 1989 and by the end of that month the Communist Party had given up its monopoly on power. Among the first things to change was the law on religion: the orders suppressed in 1950 were legal again, and men who had been taken out of these buildings under guard came back to them as old men. For a town whose skyline is a monastery, that was not an abstract political change. It decided what the largest building in Podolinec was going to be used for next.Nežná revolúcia sa začala 17. novembra 1989 a do konca mesiaca sa komunistická strana vzdala mocenského monopolu. Medzi prvými vecami, ktoré sa zmenili, bol zákon o cirkvách: rehole potlačené roku 1950 boli opäť legálne a muži, ktorých z týchto budov odviedli pod stráženou eskortou, sa do nich vracali ako starci.
